It seems impossible to believe, but we have a traitor in the White House. Trump "won" the election through the antiquated and irrelevant Electoral College with the active help of an enemy foreign nation. Of course there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. Anyone can see it.
Call me naive, but I honestly thought the Republicans would have done something about Trump by now. I mean, George W. Bush was really awful, but Donald Trump is fucking appalling. Don't Republicans care about the people of the United States? All the people? I can only assume that they don't. They only care about white Christian conservative males retaining each and every one of their assault rifles in case they decide to go on a shooting rampage. We certainly don't want to impede their right to do that.
Okay, okay, I'm exaggerating. Republicans do seem to care for white Christian gun-wielding women, too. At least the ones who know their place.
This is a frustrating time for people who care. While I'm holding out hope that special prosecutor Mueller will eventually show us the goods, it's likely that the Trump-supporting congressional Republicans won't do anything about it, no matter how bad it turns out to be. Our best hope is that the House and Senate turn blue this November. Of course, we'll have to overcome Republican gerrymandering and voter suppression to do that.
I used to live in Los Angeles County in California, which is safely Democratic. (And yes, I voted anyway.) Today I live in one of the most gerrymandered congressional districts in Pennsylvania, the 11th, that wiggles and winds its way in and around Democratic-leaning areas. The Republican gerrymandered map was drawn in such a convoluted way that when I tried to write to my congressperson (a white Republican male) I had to come up with all nine digits of my zip code just to affirm that he is my congressperson.
|My district, the 11th, is the big off-white squiggly one |
just under the big blue northeast district at the top.
So I was thrilled by the recent news that the Pennsylvania supreme court struck down the Republican gerrymander. The new congressional district map doesn't favor Democrats, but it doesn't favor Republicans, either. It's fair. Of course, Pennsylvania Republicans are fighting to reverse it. Why not? Gerrymandering and voter suppression has been working so well for them.
Anyway, back to the porn star.
I thought the Stormy Daniels scandal would be a flash in the pan like so many other Trump scandals, but suddenly it's in the news cycle every day. Which means people care. Me? I could care less about the president having an affair with a porn star (except that it affects my gag reflex), but I'll tell you what. If she is the one to bring this president down, I'll chant affirmations for her health and well being every day for a year. Well, maybe not a year. A month, maybe.
How disgusting is it that Trump was cheating on his beautiful trophy wife right after she gave birth? I can't help feeling compassion for Melania Trump. Being married to a pig is difficult enough, even with all of the obvious monetary benefits, but now he's made her look like a fool. I hope she divorces him and takes him for every cent, hopefully as he is led away in an orange jumpsuit that matches his hair and makeup.
