1.10 Shimmer
Jeff: "Did you forget the unspoken rule? Servants are supposed to be invisible."
Turns out Lex can be a decent guy. He doesn't seduce young female servants, even when they have monster crushes on him. Crush-girl Amy was of course the big red herring. Turns out it was her quiet, insane brother, Jeff.
Lana, who was having problems with Whitney, was busily organizing a blood drive. Which meant Clark had a problem. How can anyone in this day and age get through life without ever having a needle or a blood test?
Whitney's father was seriously ill, and Whitney wasn't sharing with Lana. A father with heart troubles. We all know from the comic books and movies what killed Pa Kent. A little foreshadowing there?
Bits and pieces:
-- Lex has a Napoleonic coin watch, given to him by his late mother. Napoleon... transparent allusion to Lex's future.
-- Clark in a towel. Wow. He definitely looks like he could fill out a bright blue tunic. Pete looked good in a towel, too. And the lissome Victoria took a bath. Rampant semi-nudity in this episode. Although Victoria's bath scene was more creepy than sexy, with an invisible attacker and all that broken glass.
-- The title of this one makes me think of that old Saturday Night Live skit. "New Shimmer is a floor wax! New Shimmer is a dessert topping! It's a floor wax and a dessert topping!"
-- Sure, Chloe is talented, but come on. She can analyze blood?
-- Lex was conveniently unconscious when Clark fought Jeff.
-- Jonathan: "Clark, you know you can't donate." Clark: "I know, Dad. But what am I supposed to tell her?" Martha: "That you have a problem with needles, which you technically do."
Two stars,
Billie
