Highlander
Reviews by Billie Doux

July 2010 news: Readers can now post comments on every Highlander review. And I hope you will.

When Highlander (1992-1998) was good, it was exceptional. The tango on the Eiffel Tower. The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. The Byron-Shelley house party. Okay, pretty much every episode with Methos. Fitz and Amanda too, for that matter. It took the writers and producers awhile to find their niche, but they finally did. Highlander was best when it was about the lifestyles and personalities of the immortals. What sort of person has the endurance for immortality? Who really wants to live forever?

Even though I love the series (just watching the incredibly handsome and athletic Adrian Paul with a sword is practically a religious experience), I'm the first to admit that the quality varied a great deal and the first two seasons were bloody awful. My favorite character wasn't even introduced until late in season three. If you're new to Highlander and want to skip the worst, I've listed the episodes you'll need to watch for continuity. Or... you could just start with season three.

The series will always be a favorite of mine. The movies? Not so much, although I'm mildly fond of the first one as well as Endgame. Feel free to skip them all. Especially the second movie. It's nearly as bad as Plan 9 from Outer Space. In fact, it practically *is* Plan 9 from Outer Space.
